Community works to raise funds for dog severely injured in attack
CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The community behind Charlotte's Front Porch Sundays is rallying together after one of their own's precious pup was severely injured in a dog attack.
Callie Cavanaugh, a Charlotte native who is now a second grade teacher in Nashville, Tennessee, was walking her dog "Charlie Bear" on the evening of August 7 when a dog reportedly came out of nowhere from another yard and attacked him.
Family says Charlie Bear was on a leash and harness and, at the time, giving kisses to two of the neighborhood kids. The other dog was reportedly not on a leash and there was no owner in sight.
"As Callie tried her best to pull Charlie from harms way, the other dog was able to grab him by the stomach and rip him open," Callie's sister wrote on their GoFundMe page.
Charlie Bear was rushed to the ER where he was then sent straight into surgery.
"[Charlie Bear] is now home and resting comfortably. Unfortunately, my sister can't say the same. The vet costs have hit her hard. She has confronted the neighbor who owns the 'attack' dog but they have refused to pay for the damage their dog caused. Neighbors say this is not the first time this dog has done something like this. Local Animal Control has been called and a report has been made," Callie's sister wrote.
Many in the Charlotte community have rallied together to hold a raffle that will take place at Front Porch Sundays on September 2 to help with the dog's medical costs. Tickets will start at $2 for a variety of prizes from Johnny Fly, Glory Days Apparel, Sydney W. Durrett, Kickstand Burgers - n - Bar, Raw Watches, Hoppin', Two Scoops Creamery, Burtons Grill & Bar, and Kre8 Twisted Eats.
