Christmas morning fire leaves 10 people displaced, 1 hospitalized
PHOENIX - A family is devastated after a fire forced them to evacuate their home near 33rd Avenue and Northern on Christmas morning.
Phoenix Fire Department crews were dispatched to the area around 8:30 a.m. and when they arrived at the scene, they found a garage on fire that was connected to an apartment building.
Crews were able to put the fire out and prevent it from spreading to other apartment units, but the blaze left a large amount of smoke damage.
"Unfortunately, the garage was packed pretty high, so it basically turned into them being furniture movers as well as trying to find the seat of the fire. They were able to find that fire and it looks like it's connected to some sort of water heater," said Captain Rob McDade.
10 people are now displaced, including young children, adults and elderly female who was transported to an area hospital in stable condition, per officials.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
