CCSO: Teen allegedly threatened to shoot up school or mall due to boredom
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) - A 16-year-old boy later described as "bored" was detained after he allegedly threatened gun violence at a Sierra Vista mall or school.
The boy was booked into the Cochise County juvenile detention center Sunday after his mother took him to Sierra Vista's police headquarters.
School district officials said a Facebook post threatened violence. The district officials said in a statement said they take threats seriously but didn't want parents to panic.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Carol Capas said Monday the youth told sheriff's detectives that he was bored and posted the message without speaking to anyone else.
Capas said law enforcement officials believe the juvenile was telling the truth and that there was no conspiracy or plan for an active-shooter incident.
