PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- Phoenix Police officials announced Tuesday afternoon the boyfriend of Kiera Bergman is now accused of murder.
Kiera Bergman, 19, was last seen on August 4, and her body was recovered by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office on September 3.
According to a statement released Tuesday afternoon, probable cause was developed by Phoenix Police to recommend charges of first degree murder against Jon Christopher Clark, 23. Clark was already in custody on multiple unrelated felony charges, stemming from allegations of forgery and identity theft.
"Kiera, if you can hear me, please come back. I'm sorry. I know that me not having a job was a really big issue. I did get a job I start on Monday. Just come back. I'm not going to ask any questions. I'm not going to make assumptions. Just please come back, Kiera," said Clark, on camera, five days following Bergman's disappearance. At the time, Clark said Bergman stormed out after an argument, and he had reached out to her friends.
Clark made his initial appearance in court Tuesday night, where a $1 million cash-only bond was set.
"I pray that this situation opens up a lot of, especially young women's eyes to the dangers that are out there, and you think twice before you get involved with certain people because I would hate to see other parents go through this." said Bergman's mother, Kiersten Bragg.
