PHOENIX - A four-car crash in Phoenix caused by a reported red light runner left one man dead and four others, including two young girls, recovering in the hospital on Wednesday night.
The crash happened at 43rd Avenue and Cactus Road around 6 p.m. Police say a GMC Yukon heading east ran a red light and collided into a Toyota Highlander, sending it into a Toyota Camry.
A nearby BMW was hit by the debris from the crash, but none of the occupants in the Camry or the BMW were seriously hurt.
The female driver of the Yukon was hospitalized in critical condition. The male driver of the Highlander was also critically injured.
A passenger in the Highlander, identified as 35-year-old Paul Cosma, died at the hospital.
Fire crews originally reported that two little girls were critically injured in the crash, but police later said their injuries were not serious.
Police believe that impairment and speed were a factor in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
