WICKENBURG, Ariz. (AP) - The Arizona Department of Transportation has begun another project to widen U.S. 93, part of the main highway route between Phoenix and Las Vegas.
ADOT said work started this week on a federally funded $12.5 million project to rebuild five miles of the highway between State Routes 71 and 89 just north of Wickenburg.
The project is the latest chapter of a decades-long effort to turn US 93 into a four-lane divided highway.
ADOT said three-quarters of the 200 miles between Wickenburg and the Nevada state line have already been converted to a four-lane divided highway.
The route ultimately could become part of the proposed Interstate 11,
