Woman dead after shooting and stabbing in Chandler: police

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Police say a woman is dead following a shooting and a stabbing in a Chandler neighborhood late Sunday night.

According to police, officers responded just after 11 p.m. on Aug. 27 to an apartment complex near Arizona Avenue and Elliot Road for reports of a shooting.

Once at the scene, officers found 48-year-old Elisabeth Frank with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital where she later died.

Investigators say Frank got into a fight with a man living at the apartment complex. During the fight, Frank allegedly stabbed the man prior to the shooting.

"Past contacts with Frank indicate that she may have been suffering from mental health illness," police said.

The man who was stabbed is expected to survive.

Police say the investigation will be turned over to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for review.
