Priceless Disney piece up for sale: Original "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" artwork

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A Valley man says after decades, he's finally ready to let go of a very special piece of artwork. He claims it's where Walt Disney drew his inspiration for the film, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."

Although lost in a closet for decades, a dream never dies.

"It is the oldest conceptualization of Walt Disney's 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,'" said artist Jesse Fairchild, who says this piece is more than just a beautiful creation of art, but rather the beginning of what the world now knows as the first ever animated full length feature film.

"Silk hand stitched onto a yacht blueprint from 1917 from John G. Alden, one of the most famous naval architects in the world," said Fairchild.

Estimated to be at least 100 years old, Fairchild says this turn of the century presentation piece was the turning point for Disney.

"Walt Disney took it out of his hands and then put it in the world's hands after that."

Found in a pile of artwork, including a few Picassos left behind by a relative in New Jersey, Fairchild says it's been kept from the world long enough.

"It's something I feel like has got a lot of magic attained in it and needs to be in the public eye or at least the public needs to know that there is a beginning for every dream."

Now, Fairchild says it's time for a new beginning -- time to let it go up for sale.

"We have been through every single auction that has taken place since the '80s. We've been through Disney archives, I've spoke to Disney themselves and nobody has anything like this in the world. It's original, it's unique, it is loaded with American history."

Fairchild says he plans to donate a portion of the proceeds to a children's non-profit art organization.
