Phoenix Police investigate deadly shooting at Motel 6

PHOENIX (FOX 10) - A man is found shot to death inside a room at the Motel 6. Phoenix Police are searching for a suspect, but there are little details.

Police did release the identity of the victim - 37-year-old Sean Bartnick. Bartnick was found in his room unresponsive with a gunshot wound.

Police are searching for clues at the Motel 6 off I-17 and Indian School Road, hours after the deadly shooting happened just before 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

"I figured it was gunfire," said Lee.

Police say Bartnick was found dead with a gunshot wound in a motel room. A man who stays nearby says he heard the gunshots but isn't surprised at violent activity in the area.

"It's bad around here," Lee said. "It's been bad around here for a long time."

There aren't many details on Bartnick's company or what let up to his murder, but police say a group of people was spotted leaving the scene moments after the shooting. Krystal Davis says she tries to stay out of the area.

"I've seen altercations [and] fights happen just accidentally bumping into people, so it gets a little hostile around here," Davis said. "So I can only imagine what can lead up to it. But hopefully, either way it goes, wrong is wrong."

The suspect's vehicle is described as a dark four-door Sedan, one of the few leads to finding Barnick's killer.

"And if [Bartnick] was a good, abiding citizen, then it's even more heartstruck because [of] the questions of why," Davis said. "Everything is still unknown, so hopefully justice can be served and they can find the person who's responsible."
