Monsoon storm leaves path of destruction in Mesa
MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A native to Arizona, Rory Lang has seen his share of monsoons, but nothing compares to what he experienced during last night's storm.
"The hail was coming down, so you couldn't even see two feet in front of you!" he said.
A microburst touched down in the area of Ellsworth just north of Southern and literally rocked Rory's world.
"The mobile home was just rockin' back and forth and I could feel it lift up like it wanted to take off, and I was pretty shaky," he said.
Rory knows how fast and furious a monsoon can be, but there was something about yesterday's storm that left almost 30,000 people without power.
"It was gettin' windy and then all of a sudden the hail started comin' down and then the rain," he said. "I couldn't see two feet in front of me, it was bad."
Outside, trees were uprooted, power lines were knocked over like toothpicks, and water pooled in the streets. It was a storm to remember.
"I ran to the back bedroom, to the bathroom and I stayed in there with me and my pit bull until the storm passed," he said. "It was pretty scary."
Clean up won't be easy, but Rory says he's thankful it's only property that was damaged.
"Thank God no one was hurt," he said.
