Hiker dies while on Camelback Mountain's Echo Canyon Trail

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Authorities say a man has died while hiking on Camelback Mountain's Echo Canyon Trail. Just before 12 p.m. on Thursday, the man had a medical condition that caused him to stop breathing and his heart to stop, according to officials.

When Phoenix firefighters arrived at the scene, they began resuscitative efforts but stopped when the patient's condition didn't change.

"Our crew members remarked just how impressed they were to see the efforts by the bystanders and family. Everything that could have been done for this gentleman was done," stated Captain Jake Van Hook of the Phoenix Fire Department.
