Glendale Police identifies two people who were killed in five-car crash
GLENDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) -- Glendale Police officials have identified the two people who died following a car crash involving five cars on Sunday.
The incident happened in the area of 91st Ave and Camelback Road at around 2:45 a.m., and the two who died were identified on Monday as Joel Agostini, 32, and Luis Espinoza, 26.
Glendale Police say investigators determined that four cars, including the car Agostini was driving, were stopped at a traffic signal within the westbound lanes of Camelback Road at the 91st Avenue intersection. According to evidence, Espinoza was heading west in a truck when he impacted the rear end of the car Agostini was driving. The force of the impact caused a chain reaction that sent the car Agostini was driving into a Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler 300, and a Chevrolet Malibu.
The occupants of the Jeep, according to police, received medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. Occupants of the Chevrolet and Chrysler were not hurt.
According to Glendale Police, witnesses at the scene reported that Espinoza was driving erratically, just prior to the deadly crash, and detectives are awaiting results from the Maricopa Medical Examiner's office. However, police are investigating speed and possible impairment as contributing factors to the incident.
