Fire destroys auto-body shop near Sky Harbor Airport
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Firefighters say a large fire destroyed an auto-body business just south of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Wednesday night.
According to the Phoenix Fire Department, firefighters from Phoenix and Tempe battled the first-alarm blaze, near the area of Winslow and 40th Street at about 8 p.m.
Firefighters say there were explosions inside the business during the fire and they realized there was no way to save the business, so they focused on protecting nearby structures.
The fire was being fueled by natural gas, so firefighters decided to let the fire burn out on its own.
Firefighters say the auto-body shop works on big rig trucks, but it's not clear how many were inside or how many were damaged.
No one was injured in the fire.
