According to officials with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, agriculture workers found the vehicle in a canal near Agua Caliente and Old U.S. Highway 80 Wednesday morning. Officials said the bodies of two people were found inside the vehicle, and it is unknown how long the vehicle was in the canal.
The victims have been identified as Patrick Gonzalez, 38, and his 14-year-old son. Both were from Gila Bend.
Members of the family said the father and son duo went bird hunting on Tuesday, and never made it home. At first, the family thought the two might have stayed out for the night, which was not uncommon.
"I had a cousin call me and say, 'hey, they may have found Patrick's truck in the ditch, in the canal,'" said Bo Gonzalez, Patrick Gonzalez's brother. "I was like, 'oh no.' I feared the worst, but it was him."
The Gonzalez Family is still unsure as to what exactly happened, how the truck ended up in the canal, and how long it was in the canal for. They are hoping for more answers.
"I just hope they didn't suffer you know, Especially being upside down in the canal in the water there," said Gonzalez.
The cause of death for the victims is unknown.
