Arizona weather forecast: Air Quality Alert in effect for Phoenix on New Year's Day
PHOENIX - Happy New Year!
Temperatures to begin 2025 will run above average. We reached a high of 71 in Phoenix on Wednesday afternoon.
Additionally, an Air Quality Alert has been issued by the National Weather Service through 9 p.m. on Jan. 1.
As high pressure strengthens to the south, the temperature will climb to the upper 70s on Thursday and Friday. Thursday is forecast to reach 77 degrees, several degrees shy of the record high of 81. By Friday, the record of 79 is forecast to be tied. It will be dry and sunny on Thursday with just a few passing clouds on Friday.
The dry weather continues over the weekend as a storm system runs along the West Coast and north of Arizona. This system will help our high temperatures slip back to the middle 70s on Saturday and upper 60s by Sunday.
Next week, the temperatures will remain in the upper 60s and low 70s. It will be another dry week with sunny to mostly sunny skies.
Overall, 2025 will start similar to how 2024 came to end: dry and warm!
