A ruling by a Maricopa County judge has invalidated provisions of Arizona’s elections manual, including one that said the secretary of state must canvass election results even if a county has not certified its ballots.
Fontes overstepped his authority on elections manual
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Scott Blaney ruled that Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes exceeded his authority when he created the rule in the 2023 Elections Procedures Manual. It required the statewide certification of elections results to move forward even if the vote tallies from every county in the state have not been submitted.
Driver of stolen car killed in Glendale crash: PD
A man who was driving a stolen car was killed in a crash near 67th and Alice Avenues, police said. A passenger in the car was badly hurt. Police say the man was driving the stolen car with the headlights turned off when he crashed into an SUV. A 49-year-old woman driving the SUV and her two grandchildren, ages 6 and 12, were taken to a hospital.
Man killed, 4 hurt in west Valley crash
A man was killed and four other people, including a teenage girl, were hurt in a crash on Dec. 19 near 43rd and Northern Avenues, Phoenix Police said. The man was not identified.
