'Preston Lord Day' being held in Chandler

Nearly a year after his death, Preston Lord will be honored on Sept. 23 in Chandler at The Stillery, located near Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard. There will be a butterfly release, speakers and a celebration starting at 5 p.m. Lord, 16, died after he was attacked at a Halloween party in Queen Creek. Seven people have been charged in Lord's death.

Brass knuckle ban for minors passed in Tempe

The Tempe City Council unanimously voted on Thursday night in favor of banning the sale of brass knuckles for minors. The ordinance, passed on Sept. 5, prohibits minors from possessing or buying brass knuckles, or any similar item. Similar bans have gone into effect in other east Valley communities, including in Gilbert and Chandler, after a rise in teen violence incidents.
