Yandy puts the the sexy into Halloween costumes
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - If you've been to any Halloween parties in the past decade you've probably noticed, the costumes have become skimpier and sexier over the years. It seems like even the old favorites; the witch, the ghoul, costumes all have sex appeal now.
But you may not realize the person who put the "sexy" in Halloween lives in the valley. He's a former ASU kid who grew to own the fastest growing lingerie and sexy costume website in the world; Yandy.com
He doesn't look like the kingpin of Halloween, but the guy in the wolf suit is. His empire, Yandy.com is growing fast.
In Chad Horstman's world, Halloween isn't scary it's sexy and lucrative. He created the company known for sexy costumes and lingerie when he was 27-years-old.
"There's Fredricks of Hollywood and Victoria's Secret, and we wanted to come in at a much lower price point and just be online," said Chad Horstman.
In 10-years Yandy has surpassed Fredericks and is taking Victoria's Secret from this nondescript North Phoenix warehouse. A far cry from its humble beginnings.
"It all started in my garage in south Scottsdale," he said.
Brad and his brother wanted to start an online company and turned to Google to find out what people wanted to buy.
"Lingerie was and is always in the top ten searches, so we thought that would be a great market to go into. I was a computer guy, he was a supply chain guy, and we brought my father in who is an accountant, so we had a triple threat," said Horstman.
The very first year they brought in sexy Halloween costumes that the manufacturers made. "They were just flying out of the garage to the point we were calling all of our friends and telling them to come over and help us pack orders," he said.
They could barely keep up, and they had the perfect product for what Halloween has become, a holiday for women to flaunt their stuff.
So what's next for this millionaire who is having more fun than the average guy? He wants to make Yandy.com the name on everyone's lips when they think lingerie and costumes.
The newest costume that Horstman has created features a rate with a piece of pizza, this after the New York subway rat dragging a slice of pizza went viral. The first year Yandy.com was open they had 100 costumes and two employees. Now Brad and his brother have more than 4,000 costumes, lingerie and swimsuits, and employ over 200 employees.
