Woman struck and killed by her own car in Phoenix, PD says

A 62-year-old woman was killed after police say her own car hit her in a Phoenix parking lot.

The incident happened on Jan. 11 around 3:40 p.m. near Central and South Mountain avenues, the police department said.

When police got to the scene, they found 62-year-old Laura Bigelow on the ground in front of a car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Preliminary information suggests that Bigelow parked her vehicle in a nearby parking lot. For unknown reasons, while Bigelow was at least partially out of the vehicle, the vehicle became mobile and struck Bigelow causing the serious injuries. Witnesses on scene indicated that only Bigelow was near the vehicle when it became mobile," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Robert Scherer.

Impairment is believed to be a factor, investigators say.

An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
