Will you be my valentine? Cards created, passed out to seniors
Senior Helpers helps to spread love on Valentine's Day
According to Hallmark, about 45 million Valentine's Day cards are exchanged in the United States each year. A couple thousand of those very special notes will be delivered here in the Valley, thanks to Senior Helpers and a handful of volunteers. FOX 10's Anita Roman has more.
PHOENIX - A special delivery for a special senior.
It came a bit early, but the valentine Connie Sherman just opened was really right on time to put a smile on her face.
What they're saying:
"From my friend in Mesa. Hope your day is a happy one," she read.
At 93-years-old, Connie says she needs a little help around the house with daily activities. About a year ago, she hired Senior Helpers of Gilbert and Chandler.
"Well, first of all, they open up the blinds, then they fix me a nice breakfast, then they start with laundry and all the things around the house that need to be cleaned because that's the way I like it, and they do a good job," she said.

"We help families with different tasks that they may need around the house… anything and everything you can think of, as long as it's not medical," Analaura Devary said.
Devary says it's all about customized care, and a few years ago, it turned into something more.
"The project initially started with us just wanting to spread some extra love around Valentine's Day because that's what that holiday is all about," she said.

The goal the first year – 500 valentines. Senior Helpers collected and distributed nearly 1,200.
"Last year, we actually had other Senior Helpers join us – there was eight offices that participated, and we were able to gather 33,000 cards nationwide," said Devary. "So this little project that started in Chandler, Arizona is now nationwide, so we're able to bring something special to different seniors in the community, and it's just incredibly rewarding to be able to do that."

Anyone anywhere can make a card. It's the thought that counts here and when all the cards are counted, Senior Helpers hopes to surpass last year's total.
Connie was married for more than 50 years. She has five children and nearly 40 grandchildren. There are also three great-great-grandchildren and the extra valentine means as much to her as the ones that come from her family.
