Loaded gun found inside Mountainside Middle School classroom, 11-year-old arrested

Scottsdale Police say a young boy has been arrested after a loaded gun was found inside a classroom at Mountainside Middle School on Jan. 25.

In a statement, investigators say they responded to the school at around noon for reports of a handgun that was found inside a classroom. The school was placed on lockdown.

"Police arrived and searched the school for additional weapons to ensure the students and school were safe. After conducting a search of the school, officers began interviews with students who may have had information about the gun. The school was in lockdown for three hours and once the all clear was given, the students were released about ten minutes after the normal release time," read a portion of the statement.

On Friday, police said an 11-year-old boy was arrested.

"Charges are being filed for minor prohibited from possessing firearms, possessing deadly weapons on school grounds, and recklessly handling deadly weapons," police said.

Loaded gun found in classroom at Scottsdale school

Mountainside Middle School in Scottsdale was put on lockdown after a student found a loaded handgun on the floor of a classroom, police said.
