LOS ANGELES - Charlie, Milo, Luna. These are just some of the few popular dog names from Rover’s annual Top Pet Names report.
For 12 years now, Rover has compiled the most popular dog names of the year and what inspired the trend.
"The pet names we choose are a look into our latest cultural obsessions and our sources of joy," said Nicole Ellis, Certified Professional Trainer and Rover Pet People Panelist. "This year's report reads like the magazines we used to love flipping through—the names are equal parts tabloid-worthy and total comfort food."
Rover is an app that connects dog and cat parents with pet sitters and walkers.

‘It Girl’ names
A big theme that influenced dog names in 2024 was pop culture, according to Rover – specifically: the "It Girl."
Some of the most popular "It Girl" names included:

- Jane Fonda
- Normani
- Renee (Rapp)
- Brat
- Beyonce
- Sabrina
Food names
Foodie or not, naming your pet after a type of food or snack is always cute.
Here were the most popular names this year:

- Chive
- Provolone
- Poutine
- Babybel
- Pastrami
- Tempeh
- Tortilla
- Cauliflower
- Pork Chop
