Tempe Town Lake celebrates 20th birthday

TEMPE, Ariz. - Tempe Town Lake is turning 20 and the city is celebrating with a big party.

The more than two-mile-long lake was created by damming a portion of the dry Salt River and adding water in 1999.

Twenty years later, more than 40 special events happen at the lake every year.

In fact, the lake attracts more than two million visitors every year.
