Teenage girl badly injured in convertible crash

Police are investigating a crash that left a teenager with life-threatening injuries.

Phoenix Police responded to the area of 83rd Avenue and Osborn where they found a 15-year-old girl who they say lost control of her family's vehicle while she was driving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was badly mangled, and the engine block was thrown about thirty yards down the street due to the force of the crash. The girl was rushed to the hospital, and the intersection was shut down while police investigated the accident.

Officers say the teenage driver did not have a license, took the family convertible out of the home, and wound up crashing into several trees. The teenager was found underneath the vehicle and was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say it's possible she was ejected from the convertible when it crashed.

Police are continuing their investigation.
