Man dead in targeted hit-and-run crash in Phoenix

Police say a driver intentionally hit and killed a pedestrian with their car in central Phoenix on Friday, Dec. 27.

The Brief

    • A man was killed in a fatal hit-and-run crash near the intersection of Thomas Road and 16th Street.
    • Police say he was targeted by the driver who then sped off.
    • An investigation is underway.

PHOENIX - Police say a man was targeted and killed in a hit-and-run crash in Phoenix on Friday, Dec. 27.

The fatal crash happened near the intersection of 16th Street and Thomas Road around 7:30 p.m.

According to a release, a man was found at the crash site with serious injuries and rushed to the hospital where he died.

"The initial investigation revealed that the victim was intentionally struck with a vehicle driven by an unknown suspect. The suspect took off from the area after a short period of time," Sgt. Rob Scherer said in the release.
