A suspect, identified as Jeffrey Werner, was injured, according to Sgt. Fortune, and an officer suffered non-life threatening injuries. The officer was reportedly shot, but the bulletproof vest the officer was wearing may have shielded the officer.

A white pickup truck at the scene of 44th Street and Thomas was seen riddled with bullet holes. Witnesses at the 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road location said gunfire was exchanged, near a fast food store in the area.

The officer, a 17-year-veteran, has been released from the hospital and Werner has been booked into jail on attempted first-degree murder and unlawful flight charges.
