Sun Devils head to Peach Bowl, and some fans are paying big bucks to see them
TEMPE, Ariz. - It’s official: The Arizona State Sun Devils are going down to Georgia for the Peach Bowl.
Although it's not the Fiesta Bowl as a lot of fans were hoping for, ASU fans are still looking to secure tickets and flights to Georgia to watch ASU's Cinderella story continue to unfold.
The team's win is the talk of Tempe.
"Amazing! To go from last to first?"
"It’s good for the town. It’s good for ASU as a whole."
The Devils crushed the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday, Dec. 7, becoming Big 12 champions and the 4th seed in the college playoffs.
"I’ve been a die-hard fan, and when they won, tears just went down my eyes. I’m getting choked up now. Just watching it full circle is just really special," a fan named Marcie Boyer Harper said.
Another fan named PJ Saturno was in Dallas, Texas for the big win.
"We had a really good showing. It was nice to see the planes were full of Sun Devil fans, and the game was just, you know, unreal," Saturno said.
He’s already booked another trip. This time to Atlanta for the Peach Bowl on Jan. 1.
"The phone is blowing up, everyone asking, ‘When are you leaving, when are you coming back, where are you staying?’ Everyone is trying to figure that out and scrambling around," he said.
Even Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs was asked about her plans.
"I haven’t decided yet. But I really, really want to," Gov. Hobbs said about going to the Peach Bowl.
Traveling to the Peach Bowl might cost you
"We got our tickets yesterday for the game," a fan named Xochi Valdivia said. "I got up at 4 a.m. this morning searching flights, so I am taking this very seriously. I want to get there and experience the whole thing."
Getting there during the holiday season is proving difficult.
"I’ve even looked at going to South Carolina and driving. We’ve looked at even Auburn, Alabama, but we are hoping to just go direct," Valdivia said.
The Sun Devil Club is offering travel packages for fans, including hotel and game ticket bundles. It's also seeking out interest in a charter flight from Phoenix to Atlanta.
The last time the Devils went to the Peach Bowl was 1970 under coach Frank Kush.
