Starbucks unveils 'Wicked'-themed drinks ahead of movie release

The movie "Wicked" will fly into theaters next month and Starbucks is unveiling a new line of drinks and merchandise in coordination with the film's release. 

The coffee-chain said starting Tuesday, new menu options will debut inspired by Oz and its beloved characters and places, including the Emerald City.

The latest drinks were inspired by Oz’s iconic duo, Glinda and Elphaba.

Starting this week, the coffee chain will introduce a range of menu items inspired by the world of Oz, including Glinda’s Pink Potion, a Mango Dragonfruit Starbucks Refreshers® topped with strawberry cold foam and candy sprinkles, and Elphaba’s Cold

Glinda’s Pink Potion is a  Mango Dragonfruit Starbucks Refreshers® Beverage that includes a "creamy coconut milk, ice and a scoop of real, freeze-dried dragonfruit." It will be topped with strawberry cold foam and dusted with colorful candy sprinkles.

Elphaba’s Cold Brew is a coffee with peppermint-flavored syrup with nondairy matcha cold foam adn green candy sprinkles. 

In addition to the drinks, customers can also get Wicked-inspired Starbucks Cards among other merchandise. 

"Wicked" will be released Nov. 22 in theaters.

The story imagines the world of "The Wizard of Oz" before Dorothy’s arrival, focusing in on the tale of two witches, Glinda and Elphaba, who will grow up to become the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West.

"Wicked," written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, stars Cynthia Erivo as the green-skinned Elphaba Thropp, who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and Ariana Grande as Galinda, the future Good Witch of the South.

The musical opened in 2003 and is said to have been seen by some 50 million people. The hugely popular show effectively introduced the broader public to stars Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel.
