Suspect dead, officer hospitalized after shooting in Maricopa

A suspect is dead, and an officer was shot in an incident that unfolded in Maricopa on Thursday afternoon. Now, new body camera video gives us new details.

What we know:

The Feb. 27 shooting happened near Bowlin Road and John Wayne Parkway at around 2:50 p.m.

Crime scene tape was strewn around the Circle K gas station near where investigators say a shooting took place that killed the suspect and injured a responding officer.

"The injured officer was transported to a valley hospital and is in stable condition," stated the Pinal Regional Special Investigations Unit.

Timeline:

The body camera video shows an officer chasing the suspect, who was identified as 38-year-old Keith Brock.

Brock pulled out a gun and a second officer returned fire. Brock was shot, then hit by a detective's car. He died at the scene.

The backstory:

The Pinal Regional Special Investigations Unit says Brock had an "extensive violent criminal history" and was associated with a major gang.

What's next:

The officers who were involved in this incident were placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. Their names were not released.

Maricopa Police Department says the Pinal Regional Special Investigations will investigate this shooting.
