Around 4:15 a.m. Friday, deputies arrived at a home in the 7500 block of Versailles Way regarding a family disturbance. After authorities eventually forced their way in, they found the 1-year-old boy with a severed head inside the bedroom where the suspect, Andrey Demskiy, was detained.

Andrey Demskiy, accused of killing his 1-year-old son.

When deputies first arrived at the home, deputies spoke to a woman, who said her husband Demskiy assaulted her and her mother.

The woman's mother was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries while deputies were trying to contact the 28-year-old husband and father inside. Demskiy allegedly refused to answer, but when authorities learned he was inside alone with his 1-year-old son, they forced entry.

Inside the home they found the "gruesome discovery" of the severed child's head in the bedroom, officials said.

Sheriff's child abuse bureau detectives said based on their investigation, Demskiy was involved in a domestic violence incident with his wife and mother-in-law.

When they waited for deputies, Demskiy allegedly took a knife to his son's head, beheading and killing him. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail where he remains without bail.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Christmas Eve, officials said.
