Protesters gather in Phoenix as part of nationwide opposition to Trump policies

Protests against President Donald Trump and his executive orders are happening nationwide, and on February 5, demonstrators gathered at the Arizona State Capitol.

"I'm scared to death of what's happening to America right now," said one protester.

"Inflation is going up. People are having a harder and harder time," said another protester.

Protesters attended for different reasons

Those who took part in the protest did so for different reasons. They include tariffs, transgender rights, immigrant deportations, and the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

"I’m fed up with Elon Musk getting involved and taking our information," said one protester. "He’s freaking nobody. We didn’t vote for Elon Musk."

There is no official organizer to speak of, and there were other, similar protests were taking place in other parts of the country.

What is the 50501 Movement?

Dig deeper:

The movement aims to support the free expression of "regular Americans' dissatisfaction with the embrace of Project 2025 by our government," and has scheduled protests at every state Capitol in the country.

The 50501 Movement says violence of any kind will not be tolerated. It also encourages attendees to "stick together, stay strong and remember that our collective strength lies in unity."

Protests against Project 2025 and President Donald Trump's executive orders are planned for Wednesday at state Capitol buildings in all 50 states.

"We have to rely on our own organizations," said one protester. "The Democratic Party is completely impotent. They’ve shown that they’re not capable of organizing a response to what’s happening. So we have to rely on our trade unions or civil rights organizations, coordinate a massive response and be out in the streets. Because that’s the only thing that I can think of that can stop this shift toward autocracy."
