Phoenix Police investigating apparent murder-suicide involving a son and his father
PHOENIX - Police are investigating what they believe is a murder-suicide involving a father and his son in a north Phoenix neighborhood Sunday afternoon.
Police say they responded to a shooting call in the area just after 5:45 a.m. on Oct. 8.
A large amount of police cars were seen lining a street near 40th Street and Captain Dreyfus Avenue, which is just north of Cactus Road.
"The caller stated her husband was shot inside her home and told 911 operators she believed he was shot by her son. As officers arrived, they found a man deceased inside a vehicle, parked in the driveway. The woman came out to officers and confirmed her husband was shot and was unresponsive inside their home," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Phil Krynsky.
The woman said there might be hazards inside the home, but police didn't detail exactly what she meant. Ultimately, no hazards were found and they were able to confirm her husband was dead inside the home.
Detectives believe 19-year-old Daniel Windus shot his father, 54-year-old Preston Windus, inside the home, then went into a car where he took his own life.
"The investigation remains active as detectives continue to sift through evidence and await the findings from the Office of the Medical Examiner," Sgt. Krynsky said.
