Police: Missing-1-year-old found safe in Gwinnett County

A one-year-old girl who had been the subject of a statewide Levi's Call missing child alert was found safe early Thursday afternoon, police said.

Arcade Police Chief Randy Williams made the announcement about 1-year-old Baylee Sue Peeples at a news conference shortly after 2 p.m.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation issued the alert early Thursday morning after police said Baylee was abducted by her father, 39-year-old Robert Joseph Peeples.

According to Chief Williams, Peeples dropped off the girl at the home of a member of his family in Gwinnett County.

Chief Williams said after staffers with DFACS evaluate the condition of the girl, she will be brought back to Arcade to reunite with her mother.

The chief told FOX 5's Portia Bruner Baylee "looks fine", according to investigators with his department and the GBI who went to the home.

The father is now in custody and behind bars in Gwinnett County.

Chief Williams said Peeples could face kidnapping and other charges.

According to the chief, Peeples went to the home of the girl's mother in Arcade shortly before 2 a.m., grabbed the girl, put her in his van, and hit the mother with his van as he drove off.
