Police: Attempted robbery suspect shot, killed by security guard

Phoenix Police say one person is dead after shots rang out next to the Penny Pincher Auto Parts store near 27th Avenue and Van Buren on Monday.

Investigators say 30-year-old Juan Rosas-Morales walked into the store, waving a gun around, stating that it was a robbery. About 30 people were at the scene and the store had an armed security guard on duty.

When the guard tackled the suspect, they rolled around on the floor as they were fighting.

As Rosas-Morales fled the scene, he ran to his vehicle and pointed his weapon at the guard. That's when police say the guard shot and killed him.

UPDATE: Witness inside auto shop says "I heard gunshots and hid behind the counter until it was over."
