Phoenix mom accused of punching her 10-year-old son in face

PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix woman is facing a child abuse charge after allegedly punching her 10-year-old son in the face.

Authorities say 36-year-old Lisa Thomas also wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Glendale when she was arrested Wednesday.

Phoenix police say Thomas' son suffered injuries to his face and head.

A staff member at the boy's school noticed his injuries the next day and called the police.

The boy told police his mother was angry because he had been acting out in school.

Court documents show the boy told police that his mother hit him in the back several times, kicked him in the back and then punched him twice.

Thomas was released on her own recognizance after her initial court appearance Thursday. She doesn't have a lawyer yet.
