Parents, teachers still have questions following charter school's abrupt closure

Parents and teachers still have a lot of questions, after the Discovery Creemos Academy in Goodyear shut its doors abruptly a week ago.

"I haven't slept, I haven't ate, and all I do is cry," said Ivory Willis, whose child attended the school.

"Not only selfish, but cowardly, and I say that with everything in me," said Quacy Smith. "To run off and not face this music."

Confused and increasingly angry, the staff and parents of students at the now shuttered Discovery Creemos Academy have not heard from its CEO, Daniel Hughes. They have no idea on when they be able to retrieve belongings inside the school, nor any idea if they'll get paid.

"I've had to ask my landlord if I could pay my rent in two portions this month, and beg her not to kick us out," said administrative assistant Nikki Wright..

"I'm not gonna be able to find a teaching job now," said teacher Leia Donovan. "I'm probably going to have to sell my car."

Some are asking why, and it may point back to the couple that ran the school, Daniel and Brittany Hughes

"The janitorial staff for the school used to clean his personal residence," said Smith. "The cooks from the school used to cater and sponsor parties at his house."

As families turn the page, they look back at the CEO who was front and center, as they searched for 10-year-old Jesse Wilson. They have one question to ponder.

"Was he worried about the children? I don't know," said Willis.

Tanisha Weaver, who was working as the HR Director at the school, told FOX 10's Matt Rodewald that she is working with realtors to sell the property. When asked about whether teachers haven't been allowed in the building, she said they were "dead wrong".

FOX 10 has also made repeated inquiries to the Hughes family, and authorities on this story, but there are no responses as of yet.
