National Dog Day is celebrated worldwide on August 26, marking a day of celebration for our beloved pets

Rover, a company that connects pet owners with local sitters and walkers, is revealing its survey and data findings about the most popular dog breeds in the U.S.

Here are some of Rover’s findings:

Rover’s poll of pet parents found these were the most popular dog breeds in the U.S.:

  • Mixed
  • Labrador Retriever
  • Goldendoodle
  • Golden Retriever
  • German Shepherd
  • Chihuahua
  • French bulldog
  • Dachshund

Dog breeds by generation

Among all generations, mixed breeds were still the most popular. But the second most popular varied widely: 

  • Baby Boomers: Chihuahua
  • Gen X: Labrador Retriever
  • Millennials: German Shepherd
  • Gen Z: Golden Retriever
