Man found dead inside Peoria home; suspect arrested

A man was found dead inside a Peoria home after he was shot, and the suspect was arrested, the police department said.

Officers from the Peoria Police Department responded to the area of Olive and 83rd avenues around 11 p.m. on Dec. 21. That's where they found Warren Honeywood, 45, of Buckeye, dead on the ground inside a home.

"Preliminary information shows this was an isolated domestic violence incident between the victim and the caller. A physical altercation ensued between the victim and the caller in a bedroom. After hearing the altercation, it is believed a relative confronted and shot the victim," the police department said.

The suspect who's accused of killing Honeywood is identified as Joshua Mayfield-Chavez Jr., 19, of Phoenix. He was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County Jail.

Mayfield-Chavez Jr. is accused of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct with a weapon, discharging a firearm within city limits and endangerment.
