Jose Andres brings food to National Zoo employees who have been caring for animals during shutdown

Even as the partial government shutdown comes to a close, celebrity Chef Jose Andres continues to support area federal workers impacted but the shutdown.

The local restaurateur brought hundreds of steak sandwiches and roasted brussel sprout bowls to National Zoo employees.

While the Zoo has been closed, many zoo employees have been coming in to work without pay to take care of the facilities and the animals.

The Smithsonian museums and National Zoo in Washington planned to reopen to the public on Tuesday.

Andres, with his non-profit World Central Kitchen have been feeding federal workers -- providing prepared food and food to take home as well as diapers, dog food, and other resources.

Andres also announced on Friday that World Central Kitchen will keep cooking hot meals for the next week until paychecks arrive.

Andres owns several restaurantrs in the D.C. area, including America Eat Tavern, Barmini, Beefsteak, China Chilcano, Minibar, Oyamel and Jaleo.
