Jack Black has canceled Tenacious D’s remaining tour dates after his bandmate improvised live on stage a remark about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

While on stage at a concert in Sydney, Australia on Sunday, Kyle Gass was presented with a birthday cake and asked to "make a wish" by bandmate Jack Black. Gass responded, "Don’t miss Trump next time."

The video of Gass was widely circulated on social media.

The comedy rock duo recently completed dates in the U.S. and Europe. Their "Spicy Meatball Tour" was slated to continue Tuesday night in Newcastle, hitting most major cities in Australia and New Zealand this month before returning to the U.S. for a select few dates in October.

Both Black and Gass have acknowledged and responded to the comment on their Instagrams.

Jack Black comments

Black said he was "blindsided" by Gass’ response.

"I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form," he continued.

"After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tencious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold."

Kyle Gass apology

Gass offered an apology on his Instagram.

"The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.

Trump assassination attempt

Former President Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt on July 13, 2024, while he was speaking at a campaign rally in Butler, Penn.

A 20-year-old man fired several shots with an AR-style rifle from the roof of a nearby building, the FBI said. Trump’s upper ear was injured, a rally-goer was killed, and two others were wounded

The shooter was killed by a sniper seconds after firing the shots.

Trump has gone on to say he is "fine," and named his political running mate on the first day of the Republican National Convention, JD Vance.

Trump appeared late Monday night on stage at the convention in his first public appearance since the assassination attempt with a bandaged right ear. He made no formal remarks.
