Hospital: Rep. Steve Scalise readmitted to ICU, condition downgraded
WASHINGTON - House Majority Whip Steve Scalise is back in the intensive care unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center due to concerns by doctors that he has contracted an infection.
The Republican congressman has been downgraded from fair to serious condition.
"Congressman Steve Scalise has been readmitted to the Intensive Care Unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center due to new concerns for infection," the hospital said in a statement on its website. "His condition is listed as serious. We will provide another update tomorrow, July 6."
Scalise was wounded after a 66-year-old gunman opened fire during a congressional baseball practice last month in Alexandria, Virginia. Four others were injured in the shooting.
The shooter, James Hodgkinson, was killed during the incident.
