Hamilton High School's principal, athletic director and former head football coach reassigned

CHANDLER, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Chandler's Hamilton High School has reassigned its principal, athletic director, and former head football coach to other district-related duties, according to a statement.

In the statement, which was released Friday afternoon, school district officials announce that Principal Ken James, Athletic Director Shawn Rustad, and teacher Steve Belles, have been reassigned to duties away from the Hamilton High School campus.

Hamilton High School has been dealing with a hazing scandal that has led to charges being filed against a number of students, including Nate Williams, who was charged as an adult. Belles, who was the school's former head football coach, was first reassigned to home, and then replaced as head football coach altogether.

The statement did not specify what the three people's new duties are, but said the reassignments will take effect on Monday, September 25, and will last until further notice.

"While none of the employees have been charged, it could be some time before the Maricopa County Attorney's Office decides how it will proceed. Therefore, to avoid any distraction caused by this uncertainty, the District administration and employees believe that reassignment is the best course at this time," read the statement.

The district also announced that Chris Farabee will serve as active principal, and Sharon Vanis will serve as acting athletic director.

"I'm excited, I'm humbled," said Farabee. "Unfortunate circumstances, but I'm excited that I could still serve those kids in that community."

An unnamed teacher will take over Belles' classes.
