FHP arrests driver accused of critically injuring teen in Sarasota hit-and-run crash

BRADENTON, Fla. (FOX 13) - Authorities have arrested the driver accused of critically injuring a teen in a horrific hit-and-run crash in Sarasota.

The Florida Highway Patrol said troopers arrested 24-year-old Zachari Brock of Bradenton "after an exhaustive criminal investigation."

Brock is believed to have been the driver behind the wheel of a Kia minivan that hit 19-year-old Jack Kelley's car on U.S. 41 in Sarasota on Thursday.

The crash happened outside the Lantern Inn and Suites Thursday morning. Security video from the hotel captured the accident, which showed Kelley trying to avoid a collision, but the silver minivan clipped the car. The impact caused Kelley's Audi to go airborne and flip over several times as it rolled into the adjacent parking lot.

The crash left Kelley in critical condition with a traumatic brain injury.

"My son is going to be in ICU for a long time," Kelley's father Michael told FOX 13. "So I'm not relieved, I'm glad they caught him but I'm not happy. I'm glad he's going to serve his justice but that doesn't give me any satisfaction."

Brock is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injury, and driving with no valid license involving a serious injury. Both charges are felonies.
