FD: Hiker bitten by rattlesnake on South Mountain

Firefighters rescued a hiker on South Mountain who was bitten in the leg by a rattlesnake.

According to Capt. Rob McDade with the Phoenix Fire Department, a man in his 50s called 911 and let officials know he was feeling dizzy and lightheaded.

The bite occured when the hiker whas nearing the top of the mountain.

A Phoenix FD aircraft rescue technician was called to rescue the hiker.

Rescuers use a Phoenix Police Firebird 10 to lift the hiker off the mountain to a landing zone. He was then taken to the hospital for treatment.

Fire officials are warning the public to use caution in all hiking trails and parks, as this is the time of year where rattlesnake are more active.
