Elderly man, woman killed in Tempe crash

TEMPE, Ariz. (FOX 10) - Two people are dead after a multi-car crash in Tempe on Thursday.

According to the Tempe Police Department, an elderly man and woman were killed in the crash at the intersection of Southern and Country Club.

Witnesses say the couple was getting ready to turn left onto Country Club when the 20-year-old driver of a black Ford Mustang was heading westbound and sped up to try and get through the stop light before crashing into the elderly couple.

Police say the elderly man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mustang suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police say impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
