A shooting on Jan. 15 along westbound I-10 in west Phoenix has left one person dead, and resulted in the westbound lane's closure for hours. FOX 10's Lauren Clark has the latest.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 10 are back open in Phoenix, hours after a man was shot and killed on the freeway.

What we know:

Per Phoenix Police officials, the shooting involved two men. A 911 call came in at about 8 a.m. for a shooting that happened along the I-10's westbound lanes.

According to police, some kind of fight took place prior to the shooting.

What they're saying:

"One individual fired his gun at the other individual, striking and killing him on the freeway. That car went into the center median, where it crashed," said Phoenix Police Sergeant Brian Bower. "Paramedics, fire department were called out to the scene, they went out there and pronounced the individual deceased."

What we don't know:

Officials are still unsure where the shooting began, but they have narrowed the area to between 67th Avenue and 75th Avenue.

Investigators have not identified the two involved, and their connections to each other, if any, remain unknown at this time.

What led up to the shooting is also unclear at this time.
