Body found on rural Maricopa County road, sheriff's office says

Authorities are searching for the driver who allegedly hit and killed a man in rural Maricopa County early Sunday morning.

At around 5:45 a.m. on March 10 near Rainbow Trail and Old US Highway 80, MCSO deputies responded to reports of a person lying on the road. When they got there, they found the body of 20-year-old Tanner Merrill.

MCSO says they are looking for an unknown make or model vehicle that hit Merrill before fleeing the scene. Investigators say the collision happened between 2:30 and 5:41 a.m.

The involved vehicle may have damage to the front right passenger side," MCSO said.
