DCS director unveils plan to repair agency

Arizona's new Department of Child Safety director has only been on the job for five months, taking over a department that has been embroiled in scandal.

Arizona DCS Director Greg McKay admits the department faces systematic issues, but a new strategic plan aims to repair the problems.

Among his goals.

1. Improve the hotline
2. Improve employee retention
3. Reduce length of stay for children in out of home care
4. Reduce recurrence of maltreatment
5. Improve capacity to place children in family environments

Currently there are over 14,000 backlog cases, the department's goal is to reduce that by half in the next two years.

The Department of Child Safety also wants the publics help to reach its goals. They are asking for more people to be foster parents.
