Congressman Al Green booed, heckled during Speaker of the House vote on Friday

Congressman Al Green of the 9th Congressional District of Texas made his voice heard during Friday's vote for the next Speaker of the House.

When Green's name was called, he stood up and began what may have been considered the start of a speech.

"I rise for the preferred candidate for liberty and justice for all, the hope and dream of this," Green said.

Then the chamber erupted into boos and heckling from various members drowning out what he was saying.

Green could then be heard saying, "The House is not in order."

After the booing ended, the vote taker told Green to respond with his vote saying, "the gentleman may respond by surname."

Then Green continued to try and speak prior to giving his vote but laughter and heckling of 'order' could be heard.

Green then cast his vote for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies.

Ultimately, Mike Johnson from Louisiana was reelected as House speaker by a 218-215 vote with one other vote cast.
