Body found at Mesa grocery store; homicide suspect arrested
MESA, Ariz. - Police have made an arrest in a case involving the death of a man whose body was found at a grocery store.
59-year-old Kelvin Aakjar was booked for 1 count of First Degree Murder, 1 count of Kidnapping and 1 count of Armed Robbery. The homicide occurred on October 29 at Mi Pueblo Mercado near 8th Avenue and MacDonald.
According to police, new information and surveillance video was released on November 13 which generated a Silent Witness tip that led to detectives locating Aakjar at a hotel in Mesa. He was taken into custody without incident.
Mesa Police Detective Steven Berry stated, "Aakjar was transported to headquarters where he was interviewed. He did not admit involvement in the crime."
